Nasarawa State University goes on Strike

It seems academic calendar in government institutions cannot continue without interruption due to strike the latest is from Nasarawa State University as The chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Nasarawa State University

chapter, Dr. Theophilus Lagi, has dispelled insinuations that there were forces that instigated
the union to embark on the ongoing industrial action.
Speaking to newsmen in Keffi after the union’s congress meeting where he briefed his members on
the journey thus far, the ASUU chairman said the
governor had earlier admitted that their demands
were genuine and in the overall interest of the university.
He emphasized that the law establishing the
university is faulty and needs urgent review,
adding that the promotion guideline has a lot of
ambiguity which also needs to be addressed.
Dr. Lagi maintained that the union had followed all
necessary channels appealing to stakeholders for
intervention and amicable resolution before
embarking on the strike action as students were
always at the receiving end.
He warned those politicising the issue and casting
aspersions on ASUU to refrain, even as he reiterated the union’s commitment and resolve to
continue with the strike action until their demands are met.
The union chairman, however, called on the state
government to increase the university’s funding of
capital project instead of the university relying
heavily on internally generated revenue and Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETfund) to execute projects.
